Sylvia Megerdichian
IshtaR72025-07-24T12:29:32-07:00Sylvia Megerdichian is an Armenian American who was the director and founder of Art Box Studio, where she conducted workshops, taught watercolor and collage and created her art. Now she paints at her home studio and continues to teach an online watermedia class on Monday mornings.
Sylvia likes to “mix it up”….her painting time is divided between painting with watermedia on paper and acrylic/collage on canvas or board. She states “these varied medium and cross-influences continue to strengthen my work”.
In 1990 Sylvia began her work on her Silent Women series (women with no voice) and in 2014 her Faceted Faces series, which she continues today. To keep herself challenged she also takes time off to work on her other series.
Sylvia states” My passion and focus is the continuation of my Women, especially the Faceted Faces series, as they are closest to my heart. I depict women from diverse cultures and geographic boundaries, they layered life experiences as …seen on their faces. My work is mainly on vibrant rich colors and textures, influences from my childhood memories of Armenian carpets and Persian tile work. My happy place is the fascinating zone between abstraction and representation.”
Megerdichian’s work is in private and corporate collections as well as museum permanent collections which include the Riverside Museum of Art, Chaffey Community Museum of Art, and the Sasse Museum of Art. Sylvia is a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society and her paintings have been published in art magazines and art books. Her work is continually exhibited at Square I Gallery in Claremont Ca.
